Gloria progress

I am getting to a very exciting point in my stitching on the superb Patricia Andrle "Gloria".  I am about to finish stitching the next to last line.  The last line is a gold motif with the word "Deo" in gold.  That completes the inner design and then will be the bottom border.  See the image below.

The above image is a photo of the magazine page and it does not touch the beauty of the actual piece.  I will finish stitching it and then gently wash and press it.  I have a piece of lightweight interfacing that I will press on.  This will keep the threads in back in place.  Once that is accomplished I will attach the gold beads with white floss and it will be ready to take to C.C.& Company to pick out the frame.  I am so cuffed with this project, the beauty of the blending filament and the opalescence of the fabric is beyond words. I can hardly stitch because my eye keeps wandering over it in admiration of the sparkle.  If I am diligent it could be as short as 2 weeks before done.  I am not holding my breath for diligence.

April is finished before it has begun!

I interrupted my stitching on Patricia Andrle's "Gloria" to stitch up a free design I am going to post about on my Facebook Needle Free For All group the first of April.  In 2015 a German blog had a stitch along and all of the months have a chart which can be found on the above link.  I really liked the small design (43x43 stitches) but not the color floss the blogger chose.  The photo above is my version and the smaller photo below is the blogger's version.

I wanted to use floss colors that I felt represented April in my own opinion.  "April Showers" is what I envisioned blue greys and a pop of floral colors.  I chose 28 count Zweigart cashel linen in the color "ice blue" (similar to DMC 3841). "April" is stitched in the now defunct Six Strand Sweets "Berry Twist" (similar to DMC 598 & 33). The rest is stitched in Classic Colorworks "Deep Blue Sea" (similar to DMC 322/334).  I had originally stitched the motif above the "P" in the Berry Twist but decided I didn't like it so I ripped it out and stitched it in the Deep Blue Sea.  I fell in love with it at that point.  You can see how the Palko Lap blogger stitched hers in the small photo below.  I think my choices are much more appealing.

My intention is to stitch each month and then make hanging pillow ornaments, one month as the front and another as the back.  I want to bind them together with a beaded edge and then each will hang off of a peg on a mug tree on my dining room table.

I stitched on this project March 13 (started at 9:00am), 15, 18 & finished at 8:15pm on the 19th of 2022. This was a wonderful project and I enjoyed stitching it.  I am still pondering the colors of floss and fabric for the month of May.

☩ Mary's Sampler is finished! ☩

Plum Street Samplers free SAL from 2013, Mary's Sampler, was a casual stitch along on a Facebook group I am in.  Here is a link to the pattern and color key:

Mary's Sampler chart: https://plumstreetsamplers.com/2013/11/24/marys-sampler-finale/?fbclid=IwAR1CoppH_DPvl5zLFI33bdkgLSPJs-wolYKq4GgR55K7KJLhiRKTe33URhM

COLOR KEY: https://plumstreetsamplers.com/2013/09/29/marys-sampler-part-1/?fbclid=IwAR3VOqSQ42usepWxXL7kxyAsY2ekX9rch-SNzrZhGledezHdjT7C7ZZOe64

I started stitching it Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at 1220 p.m.  I completed it Monday, February 21, 2022 at 9:00 p.m.  That was a span of 28 days of which only 20 days I worked on it.

I used Hand Dyed by Stephanie 28 count Lugana in the color "Slate".  The floss I used was DMC 611, 642, 729 and 3371. I used Dye Is Cast Dried Herbs and Weeks Dyed Works Boisenberry for the berries in the border.  Crescent Colors, Sweetest Heart was used for the large flower in the design and Gentle Arts Sampler Threads in the colors Brandy, Shaker White, Wood Smoke, Adobe, Wood Trail and Heirloom Gold were also used.

I really like this design.  I think the fabric choice was perfect for it and showed off the floss colors beautifully.  I think the designer was so novel using quilted stars for the stars in the sky.  I wasn't too sure about her color choice for them but they are absolutely perfect. My favorite motifs are the Mary and Joseph and the shepherd. I found that I loved the Gast color Wood Smoke, it is just a dirty aged white that was wonderful. I don't know how or when I will finish this, but it might make a nice small pillow. I am glad I took time away from Gloria to work this.  I did have some separation anxiety to be truthful.

My substitutions and choice of floss colors and fabric were determined by what I had in my stash.  I have been very conservative in my stashing habit, trying to whittle it down to nothing. The biggest event that occurred as I was stitching this was cataract surgeries of my mother and a very bad snowstorm on February 2nd and again on the 17th which was also ice under the snow.

So this is the accurate and true story of my experience stitching this design.  God has blessed me.

My two current projects progress!

This is Patricia Andrle's "Gloria" as of today.  I have set it down to work on a SAL project.  Glo is just stunning.
Meet Mary's Sampler from Plum Street Samplers.  I am leading a SAL on the Facebook Group "Cross Stitch for Believers in Christ".  There are 7 or so participants in this casual stitch along.  I am stitching this on slate 28 count Lugana hand dyed fabric by Stephanie.  I am using a mixture of DMC, Dye is Cast and GAST floss.  It has been fun, but I am missing Glo!  Separation anxiety, I think.

Projects three, two yet to be and one in progress you will see!

Here is how my WIP Gloria designed by Patricia Andrle looks at this moment.  Stitching it is a slow process as every full cross has a blending filament in it.  I try to twist, straighten, drag and position the filament to show on the top leg of the X.  It happens maybe 3 out of every 4 stitches.  I know I say this every time but I love how this design looks as it is stitched.  Somedays I find it a drudgery but most days it is a joy to pick it up.

I joined a Facebook group I really like called "Cross Stitch For Believers in Christ".  It is a smaller group but I like it.  I am not hesitant to show my love of my Father, creator of all that is and will be.  It is a joy to share that with other like minded ladies.  I did jump in with both feet by sharing spiritual free designs I found.  I also have organized a stitch along of Mary's Sampler.  It is a free design from Plum Street Samplers.  There are maybe a half dozen on the group who will start stitching it this Sunday January 22, 2022.  Here is a link and a picture of this lovely design.
Here is the link to the color key: Mary’s Sampler Key – Plum Street Samplers

I have also kitted a traveling project to occupy my time while I wait.  My mother is having cataract surgery done on her eyes.  She will have several appoints and I have chosen an easy one color project to work on.
I will be using Silkweaver's Signature Series 28ct linen in the color "Antique Mauve".  The floss I chose was Nina's Threads in "Old Lace". Love both colors and it should be easy to pick up and put away in waiting rooms.  I have no idea how I will finish it once done but "Homemade" is love incarnate.

Well that is it for now.  I will show particulars on Mary's Sampler once the stitch along begins.  So for now, keep cozy and warm as you stitch, stitch, stitch.

Gloria by Patricia Andrle and my progress and thoughts so far!

So my best friend forever and I Skyped today and I took some photos of my Gloria progress. Just a reminder about this piece, I started "Gloria" designed by Patricia Andrle on November 27, 2021. This chart can be found in the Cross Stitch and Country Craft magazine issue November/December 1995.  I was Skyping with my bestie Leslie when I started it.  I am using the called for colors of DMC floss and Kreinik metallics on 28 count Lugana fabric in Opalescent White.  This is a stunning design and we both agree Patricia Andrle is one of both of our FAVORITE designers of all time.
This is the beginning of the wording.  This image does a fairly good job of showing how the metallic blending filament is stunning in EVERY stitch.  It is not in the backstitching.  You can see how the opalessence fabric adds to the overall effect of majestic medieval feel of this design.
The border motifs and these motifs to the right of the "O" remind me of crown jewel gems.  The backstitching just defines them.  The grey crystal type shape of the corners in the far right motif have no backstitching however that just adds to the ethereal feel of ice crystals.  I love it.
Here is even a closer image of these motifs.  I have 3 more to stitch in this row before I get to the right border.  If you look at the gold motif on the left the inner red looks like it deepens to a deep, deep garnet when in fact the back stitching gives it that illusion.  Actually the center is a black +, it is stunning.

The above is a photo of the photo in the actual magazine just as a reminder of the entire design finished. It absolutely does not do justice to the real beauty of the design.

I have stitched on it every day since I started.  I did miss 2 days, December 25th and 26th.  I have managed to obtain my daily stitching goal of one complete motif size area of stitching each day I stitch.  The going is made slow by the Kreinik and I have fought with that blending filament several days.  I am thrilled with my progress and how stunning the design is and have enjoyed every minute I have worked on it.
